Holy Thursday, the beginning of the Easter Triduum is now upon us. Many of us will be tuning in to the various live-streamed services available to us – be they in our local parish, our Diocese, or the Vatican.
The Easter Triduum begins by celebrating ministry – both for those called to Priestly Ministry, and to all of the followers of Christ, ministering to each other. Back in 2016, I preached on Holy Thursday and touched on some of the important themes of this day. If you wish, you can go over the homily HERE.
Suffice it to say, however, that the theme of humble service, which is central to Holy Thursday, has become so very much more REAL for us as we have journeyed through this most unusual, and visceral, Lent together. Humility because we realize just how not-in-control we are. How much we are a part of a much larger ecosystem of creation. Service, because we are called to change our actions so that others are helped.
If humble service is the core message of Holy Thursday, then 2020 is the year when we have experienced that message to the very core of our being.
