On Saturday night, at 8:30 pm, people around the city began banging pots and pans, playing music and making noise. It was a way of saying thanks to all of those working in healthcare and letting them know how much their efforts are appreciated.
One of my daughters works in a geriatric healthcare facility in Toronto … she called me so I could hear the sounds she was hearing from her balcony, and share with me how much she appreciated the message that people were sending.
With a three year old at home, and a little baby due to arrive in just a few months, she continues to help others in an at-risk population as they cope with the fear and anxiety that this pandemic has generated.
She is not alone. She is not unique. She is like so many others who do what is the right, the loving, the compassionate, thing to do.
Our news can become filled with stories of people who are less than the best examples of what it means to be human.
But our world is filled with people who are the very best examples of what it means to be human. Millions of them. Quietly doing the right thing, the loving thing, the compassionate thing.
Let us thank God each and every day that they are with us, and inspire us.
And if we bang a few pots and pans and sing at the top of our voices to let them know ….. more the better !!!
